We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Community Care department as an Assistant Nurse Manager. This is a dynamic leadership opportunity for a clinically skilled RN who thrives in managing people, processes, and quality outcomes for our nation’s Veterans.

Position Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager and plays a critical leadership role in supervising, evaluating, and supporting nursing operations. This role requires a deep understanding of utilization management, consult coordination, and adherence to VA care standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, MCG, VISN).

The ANM fosters a positive and inclusive workplace culture, supports staff development, and ensures evidence-based practices are implemented consistently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and evaluate day-to-day clinical and administrative operations within the Community Care Department

  • Assist in staffing oversight, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve care coordination, utilization management, and discharge planning

  • Monitor and report outcomes, productivity metrics, and quality improvement indicators

  • Act as a clinical leader for consult management and referral processes

  • Maintain current knowledge of MCG guidelines, federal care standards, and VA documentation policies

  • Promote professional development and provide staff education opportunities

  • Ensure compliance with VA, IG, Joint Commission, and other federal regulations

  • Serve as backup to the Nurse Manager as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE)

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license from any U.S. state or territory

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

  • Must meet VA physical requirements, including TB screening and flu vaccination

Candidates must meet criteria in VA Handbook 5005/Appendix G6, including education, licensure, and dimension competencies (Practice, Patient-Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, Evidence-Based Practice). Refer to official posting or HR contact for specifics.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: Competitive salary with regular step increases and performance awards

  • Paid Time Off: Up to 50 days annually (26 annual leave, 13 sick days, 11 federal holidays)
