Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced API Specialist to join our team in Reston, VA. Reporting to the Lead Account Executive, this hybrid role blends remote and in-office work. You will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of high-performing APIs that enable seamless integration across diverse platforms and applications for our clients.

As the API subject matter expert, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure API solutions aligned with business requirements. You will also provide documentation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvements to API services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance APIs to meet client needs.

  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather requirements and provide API solutions that align with organizational goals.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on APIs, supporting creation of detailed documentation and facilitating integration and usage.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to API performance, security, and functionality to ensure high-quality deliverables.

  • Implement API monitoring and logging to maintain optimal performance and reliability.

  • Stay current with emerging API technologies, trends, and best practices, incorporating these into development processes.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining agility and quality in fast-paced environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in API design, development, and solution implementation.

  • Strong expertise with RESTful APIs, including HTTP, JSON, and API versioning principles.

  • Proficiency with API management platforms and cloud environments (e.g., AWS).

  • Hands-on experience with frameworks such as Java, Node.js, microservices architectures, or equivalent.

  • Experience working in Agile development environments and familiarity with Agile methodologies.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for providing technical leadership and supporting cross-team efforts.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high-quality outputs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline.

  • Experience with additional API protocols and technologies (e.g., GraphQL, gRPC).

  • Familiarity with security best practices for APIs (OAuth, JWT, etc.).

  • Certifications related to cloud platforms or API management.
